| Naked Compensation :: Crime Pays |
Editorial: If there's one area of claims that should be targeted but plainly isn't, it's criminal compensation. Rather than being from insurance companies this money comes from tax payers and is paid out to anyone that has been the victim of a violent crime. Common claims include bar fights where the victim lost, though obviously unable to write that down the story always goes "I was in my local pub when someone came up to me and hit me for no reason, I had not had too much to drink". Another favourite is claiming for feeling terror over other people's suffering e.g. "I saw the London bombings on the news and now I'm scared to ride a bus in my hometown of Carlisle, how much compensation do I get for that?" †
